On the occasion of the MoMa exhibition in Berlin in 2004, we were interested in the question of the mechanisms that define art as such. MoMa is a logo and a label, where it says MoMa on it, there is art inside. Going in and having a reputation is valuable. “People” know this and it is good manners to take part in this cultural event. Have you already been there?
Getting in is difficult, hours of queuing, hours of thinking about what art is, hours of doubt – was it worth it? Outside, a fairground scenario on Ikea rental chairs. In the entertainment program, for waiting visitors, there are crash courses by MoMa staff, art history of color printing. We ask: Where do you come from, why do you come here and what do you expect here, are you familiar with the pictures or artists in the exhibition, what is art for you?
The new house is being built in NY. If you invest 20 dollars, you have bought yourself a view of art that you can be sure is art.
We are on location in New York and interview passers-by in front of the Metrpolitan Museum of Modern Art.
Come in?
