Random Access Memory is a shift from storage in permanence to permanent transfer. RAM travels in time – back and forth. RAM’s approach is artistic, technical, psychological, sociological, philosophical, political, futuristic. RAM applies it ? on growing collections and overlays of materialized data. RAM is a generator of environment, uses reconfiguration, visualization, exploration, transformation, transfer and linking of stored data information. RAM generates and reconstructs data and opens up experimental access paths. RAM is aware of the outside and the context. RAM claims freedom for overlapping associations and encounters. RAM is an open-ended research project. RAM is real time
This project explores the possibilities of dynamic access to stored data information, links active resources with current issues and connects them to different discursive fields.

RAM’s running sequences move neither linearly nor within fixed orders. His sequences evolve post-productively, uncovering content, locating interferences, illuminating interfaces, revealing boundaries/perforations and creating synergies. RAM’s ongoing field research project explores content within its transdisciplinary environments through presentations, panel discussions, performances, temporary installations, video/film screenings, workshops, soundscapes and participatory actions.

SEGMENT I / ARCHIVE

Within the first segment, RAM sheds light on archiving practices. During the 3-day event, the berlinerpool archive, consisting of a collection of material from over 15o artists, will be open and actively usable for members and visitors throughout. Through research, tenders and participative actions, berlinerpool functions as a memory management unit. The focus is on exploring the vitality of stored data by creating an open exchange of archive content. Material can be added, removed or edited by members and can be viewed by visitors as it progresses.

berlinerpool’s archive (Archeío(n) gr.) does not refer to the general understanding of a place of conservation/preservation or to a chronotopos, a spatio-temporal regularity that asks where? and when? but sees itself as a medial tool. Instead of seeing berlinerpool in a traditional way as an ark – as a place for a specific collection within a certain hierarchical order, it can be perceived as an arch (eng.), as a passage or a passageway to a multiplicity of contextual networks. The essence of the berlinerpool archive is its mobility, which works not only through the changing presentation locations but also through its constantly circulating contents. berlinerpool works democratically, its members select new members. The content of the archive boxes is temporary and not under the control of the managing team, it is based on the personal decisions of the artists. berlinerpool’s vitality is continuously and consciously viewed and renewed through the questions and search movements of the archive users.

Segment I will also provide insights into projects by curator Eleonora Farina (I) and philosopher and author Jonathan Grey (UK) from the Open Knowledge Foundation (www.okfn.org). Further research on the topic will be carried out by means of performance art, video/film screening, improvised music sound scapes and a live stream lecture. Topics of the supporting program are:
